PELAKSANAAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN TOTALLY PHYSICAL RESPONSE (TPR) UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PRESTASI BELAJAR SPEAKING DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS SISWA KELAS XI SMA NEGERI 2 BAUBAU
Abstract
The research was conducted with the aim to find out: (1) The steps to implementing speaking learning in English with the Totally Physical Response (TPR) learning model for students of class XI-IPA 8 of SMA 2 BAUBAU; (2) The magnitude of the increase in the achievement of students of class XI-IPA 8 for speaking in the field of English after the learning process has been carried out with the Totally Physical Response (TPR) learning model. This type of research is classroom action research with qualitative analysis methods. The study was conducted in the even semester of the 2016/2017 academic year in class XI-IPA 8 of SMA 2 BAUBAU. The results of the study are: (1) The process of speaking with the TPR learning model is carried out by incorporating aspects of body movement response, aspects of movement coordination response with oral, and feedback response aspects. TPR learning is done by entering discussion, demonstration, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving techniques. Learning speaking with TPR is strengthened by incorporating vocabulary reinforcement in students and grammar according to the theme of speaking learning material; (2) Increased learning achievement after the implementation of learning speaking with TPR is quite large,
wherein the pre-study of students' speaking value actions only 6.26 and increased slightly to 6.6 in the first cycle, then increased significantly to 7.3 in the second cycle and increased again to 7.51 in cycle III. The number of students who completed the study also experienced an
increase, wherein the pre-implementation of the study only 18 students (45%) completed the the study, in the first cycle, increased slightly to 19 students (47.5%) completed learning, in the the second cycle increased rapidly to 28 students (70%) complete learning, and in the third cycle
had reached 33 people or 82.5% of students completed learning. This number is greater than the target set by the teacher, which is more than 75% of students complete learning with a target grade of 7.5.
